Requisites for HON 484
An internship is defined by Barrett, the Honors College as a single short-term work experience that offers a student the opportunity to enhance classroom knowledge. The scope of responsibilities should be more than basic administrative and clerical tasks. A student’s internship should consist of career-related professional work experiences that relate to their academic and personal goals in some meaningful way.
- Barrett students can use almost any internship to qualify for HON 484 enrollment, but they cannot simultaneously enroll in another internship credit in another department.
- The internship must be a new experience that the student has recently begun, not a continuation of an ongoing internship, or a transition from a full-time, part-time, or summer job.
- To receive credit, students must be enrolled in HON 484 and all internship hours completed must be completed within the semester of enrollment.
- Internships are not allowed with companies owned or managed, fully or in part, by family members nor can internship positions be supervised, directly or indirectly, by family members.
- Internships where the primary form of payment is directly from clients/customers to students in the form of a commission are not allowed.
- Internships at companies that have student ownership or promises of ownership to the students are not allowed.
