Barrett Deans Tara Williams and Kristen Hermann

Message from the Deans

Dear Honors Students, Prospective Students, Families, and Friends,

Welcome to Barrett, The Honors College at Arizona State University! Between us, we have nearly four decades of experience in honors education and it is our privilege to serve as the deans supporting the amazing students, staff, faculty, and alumni in the Barrett community.

Since its inception in 1988, Barrett Honors College has been dedicated to a high purpose: to provide the very best undergraduate education for highly motivated and engaged students from Arizona, the United States and the world. Barrett offers an honors experience that supports your academic, professional, and personal development. We have a four-year residential community and dedicated space on the four ASU campuses of Tempe, Downtown, West, and Polytechnic; we also offer an innovative online honors program. Dozens of Barrett faculty are entirely devoted to teaching honors courses and mentoring honors students. With the three-tiered advising system, Barrett students also have the advantages of an honors advisor, an academic advisor, and a Faculty Honors advisor. Every semester, you can choose from a host of events and programs organized by Barrett’s Student Engagement team, Global Office, Center for Professional Development, peer mentors, and student clubs.

Over 36 years of its existence, Barrett has maintained that purpose and grown into the largest honors living and learning community at a U.S. public university. The honors college has received numerous accolades, including recognition as the “gold standard” among honors colleges in the nation from The New York Times and top rankings from Public University Honors and PrepScholar.

We owe this recognition to our unwavering commitment to providing honors students the special care, attention and guidance in academics and advising they expect from an excellent residential liberal arts college backed by the vast programs, research opportunities and mentoring resources of the most innovative Research I university in the country.

We are extremely proud of the excellence exhibited by Barrett Honors College students, as evidenced by the record number of National Merit, National Hispanic and Flinn Scholars who have chosen the honors college, the nationally-ranked numbers of Fulbright, Truman, Goldwater, Udall and Marshall fellowships won by our graduates and the track record of honors graduates entering masters and doctorate degree programs, medical school, law school and employment at top companies and organizations.

Barrett Honors College is here for you and it’s a place where you can truly thrive. We hope you will take part in and help support all it has to offer.

Sincerely,

Dean Tara Williams
