Barrett Complex

Opened in 2009, the $140 million Barrett residential complex on the Tempe campus stands alone among honors colleges for its size and comprehensiveness of services. Amenities designed in part by honors students and administrators include residential space for 1700 students, a signature refectory and contemporary dining center, classrooms, café, amphitheater, labs, faculty and administrative offices, and a sustainable living and learning community with an organic garden and activity space.

Barrett Honors College is a four-year residential community. Barrett Tempe first-year students live within the Barrett Complex in Agave, Cereus, Sustainability House at Barrett (SHAB) located in Sage South and Sage North, Juniper, Rosewood, and Cottonwood buildings. There are several room types available including shared room/shared bath, private room/private bath, quads, or private room/shared bath living options.

All Barrett students continue to live in the honors residential community for their second year in apartment-style housing in Barrett @ Vista del Sol. Because of the numerous benefits of living in Barrett, many students choose to live in Barrett housing for their third and fourth years.

Sustainability House at Barrett

The Sustainability House at Barrett (SHAB) is a student-initiated, student-run project that works to build a strong living and learning community of students with a common interest in understanding and acting upon a broad range of sustainability-related issues. SHAB is one of the most comprehensive living and learning communities in the nation.

Connected through two residence halls, Sage North and Sage South, SHAB is home to 203 student changemakers from a variety of majors and disciplines dedicated to an eco-conscious lifestyle and making a positive impact on the world around them.

College Communities

College communities create strong links between the living and learning experiences for students who have similar majors and goals. Each of these communities has a professional staff member, student Community Assistant, and student Peer Mentor committed to student growth and development through group learning. Barrett first-year students from all colleges participate in these communities while also benefitting from college-wide programming that takes place in all Barrett residence halls.
