About this opportunity

Students doing their thesis in the area of Marketing have an entire spectrum of opportunities available to them, depending on their specific interests. Similar to the field of Marketing, there are a wide-range of topic areas for students to consider, including Digital Marketing, Market Research, Branding, Consumer Behavior, Marketing Strategy, Professional Sales and Business/Market Plans. Additionally, the Marketing Department houses the Sports Business major and multiple faculty in this area are heavily involved in sports business related theses through our AdSport Scholars program.

Any Barrett student who is considering majoring in Marketing or Sports Business and/or having a concentration in Digital and Integrated Marketing or Professional Sales should contact John Eaton at john.eaton@asu.edu.

Thesis

In the Marketing Department, theses do not follow a particular format, but rather, they can be academic research projects, business plans, industry analyses, and/or creative-based projects, depending on the student and thesis committee's desired outcomes for the thesis.

The Marketing Department requires two faculty members. The second faculty member can be from any unit on campus. An optional third committee member can be anyone with sufficient expertise in the thesis topic.

Academic Preparation

A student would need to complete either MKT 300, MKT 302, or MKT 303 to begin the thesis process with a marketing faculty member.

Recommended Timeline

Typically, students begin work on their thesis one year out from graduation. By the end of their junior year it is expected that the student has identified an area of inquiry and a thesis committee. Students can opt to take MKT 492 and MKT 493 over two consecutive semesters.

Other Honors Opportunities

MKT 303 is the Marketing core course that is open to all students in W. P. Carey. All marketing courses, with the exception of MKT 300, may allow honors enrichment contracts to the discretion of the instructor, and as long as the instructor is a full-time faculty member.

Other opportunities within the Marketing Department include participation in the Marketing Department Honors Student Advisory Board, our Honors Marketing Mixers and Honors Marketing Luncheon which features an Early Career Alumni Panel.

W. P. Carey is also proud to offer a specialized honors version of core business curriculum. This honors version, offered in Fall and Spring semesters, takes a deeper dive into course material and allows students to engage on a higher level with their faculty and peers. Students of all business majors are able to access these courses:
